FABtotum PRISM hits Crowdfunding

Low Cost Stereolithography 3D printing meets All in One Personal Fabrication

SAN FRANCISCO - Aug. 25, 2015 - PRLog -- The FABtotum Personal Fabricator is world's first multipurpose personal Fabrication device able to print-scan-mill. Today the company announced the launch of FABtotum PRISM with a new crowdfunding campaign (https://www.indiegogo.com/at/FABtotum-Prism ). PRISM is a Breakthrough technology that cuts costs and complexity out of the equation. PRISM adds affordable and hi-quality 3D printing at small scales on top of the Printing, Scanning and Milling capabilities of the FABtotum platform.

FABtotum PRISM enables precision 3D printing with an innovative Stereolithography technology.
With the addition of the PRISM Stereolithography manufacturing technology, tinkerers and professionals will be now able to reach unprecedented levels of details and complexity, improving the already high capabilities of the FABtotum platform.

The FABtotum, with the addition of PRISM, will become the most flexible and advanced multipurpose manufacturing device ever conceived, capable of:
- FFF/FDM: 3D Print Materials such as PLA, PETG, ABS as well as NYLON, HIPS, PC;
- Stereolithography: 3D Print photosensitive Resins;
- 3D Mill/Cut Foams, Brass, Wood, Aluminum, PCBs;
- 3D scan models, generating point clouds via multiple 3D scanning methods with the built-in hi-res camera, touch probe and laser scanner.

Design, create, replicate both big and small high-precision components with a huge variety of materials, acquire 3D shapes: with PRISM, FABtotum brings - again - personal fabrication to a whole new level.

PRISM will be released both as an add-on and bundled, in order to have it available both for existing units and any new FABtotum Personal Fabricator. This allows every FABtotum owner to be granted the chance to take advantage of this new capability.
PRISM set up is mentioned to be easy, require fewer calibrations and allow to quickly get started with SLA manufacturing.

PRISM can focus more power per area unit at a fraction of the cost: it does so by flashing light only when and where needed, saving energy and time.

While conventional solutions have a fixed energy output, PRISM can virtually scale up to higher levels that today are still unavailable for standard DLP systems.
This means that PRISM can even cure a single pixel in an instant, where other systems would require more time to solidify smaller objects, due to the low energy emitted per area unit.

PRISM printing speeds is inversely proportional to the area cured, like Selective Laser Sintering systems: whether for bigger prints it's in line with other SLS or DLP systems, for smaller areas it's much more faster than conventional DLP systems, SLS and LED-LCD systems.

PRISM project is now on Indiegogo: just like two years ago, FABtotum is running a crowdfunding campaign to finance the development and production of this new device.

The FABtotum project continues its growth but stays tied to its original ideas: completely Open Source, its aim is to increase its potential together with the community. A constant feedback from users helps the Team who strives to develop the product, solving troubles and adding new features.

On the way, in the near future, they will offer interchangable parts and the PRISM is just one example of what a multifunction platform can turn itself into. New heads as well are on their way: after releasing an improved version of the Hybrid Head the Team is already focusing on the next one (the Laser Head is getting ready as well).

About FABtotum S.r.l.:
FABtotum s.r.l. was officially founded in 2013 and the project was previously crowdfunded on Indiegogo.
FABtotum made its first steps in the Business incubator district "POLIHUB" of the University of Politecnico di Milano, one of the most renowned european universities in Engineering, Architecture and Industrial Design since 1863.
In September 2014, production and shipping of the FABtotum Personal Fabricator started, fulfilling all perks about five months later.
Located in the outskirts of Milan, Italy, FABtotum is today a Team composed by young Engineers, Designers, Software Developers and Makers with a background in Architecture and a passion for design, innovation and personal fabrication.
