Local Attorney Joins Board for Macon Bibb Citizen Advocacy

MACON, Ga. - Aug. 14, 2015 - PRLog -- Recently, David Mann, a local attorney and native of Macon, was named to the Board of Macon Bibb Citizen Advocacy, Inc. The mission of Macon Bibb Citizen Advocacy, Inc., a non-profit foundation, is to promote the protection of and advocacy for people with developmental disabilities. Mann said, “Being involved in such a worthwhile community activity has really allowed me to see how a small organization can make a large impact.”

A Citizen Advocate is a valued citizen, who is unpaid and independent of human services, who creates a relationship with a person at risk of social exclusion. The Citizen Advocate chooses one or several of many ways to respond to and represent that person's interests as if they were the advocate's own, thus bringing the partner's gifts and concerns into the circles of ordinary community life. Mann stated, “The main reason I became involved with MBCA is because their mission is in direct alignment with values of the Mann Law Firm, where we believe that those who are injured or have disabilities should have their needs put first.”

Some of the ways in which advocates may be involved are: to assist in times of medical emergency or crisis; serve as representative payees and help manage financial affairs; petition the court on others' behalf; provide support within the public school system; and assist in obtaining employment.

Mann grew up in Macon and has always been involved in local activities, but he says this foundation has been a true labour of love and a new experience for him, exposing him to a wide variety of people within the community.
