Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a fatal progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. The progressive degeneration of motor neurons eventually leads to muscle atrophy – a complete loss of muscle control. On average, annual costs involving mobility, breathing, and communication equipment can cost up to $70,000 per individual. Funding towards this causes goes towards individuals and their families affected by the disease to help cope with the emotional and physical challenges faced while living with ALS.
