UJA-Federation of New York Recognizes Dr. Sam Sandowski for Service to Community

OCEANSIDE, N.Y. - Aug. 13, 2015 - PRLog -- In recognition of his dedication and service to improving the health of communities in Nassau County, the UJA - Federation of New York’s division of South Shore Healthcare Professionals honored Samuel Sandowski, MD, at its annual dinner reception held at the Sephardic Temple in Cedarhurst, NY.

The world's largest local philanthropy organization, UJA - Federation of New York helps 1.4 million people in New York City, Westchester County and Long Island as well as 3 million people in Israel and 60 other countries around the world.  The funds raised by the UJA - Federation sustain the activities of more than 100 health, human-service, educational and community agencies.

“This is a well-deserved honor,” said Adhi Sharma, MD, chief medical officer at South Nassau Communities Hospital.  “Dr. Sandowski’s selflessness and good works in the community are equal to the excellence he has achieved as a clinician and medical education leader.”

Director of medical education at South Nassau, Dr. Sandowski is a recognized leader in faculty development and academic medicine. He has published numerous articles and chapters, and co-edited medical textbooks, including "Primary Care.” Dr. Sandowski graduated Cum Laude from the Technion Faculty of Medicine in Israel.  He completed his residency in Family Practice at South Nassau, and subsequently completed a faculty development fellowship at the SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn, where he was appointed the Medical Director of the Family Practice Center.  He also serves on the executive committee of the Downstate Family Medical Education Consortium, as well as the education committee of the New York State Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Sandowski has oversight of all teaching activities at South Nassau, including those of physician assistant students, medical students, and residents.  He also chairs South Nassau’s committee on continuing medical education for its medical staff and attending physicians.  Additionally, he is responsible for overall communication with medical school leadership and other teaching institutions, serving as a liaison with the medical community; particularly with facilities and agencies providing instruction for students and residents.

South Nassau is the only hospital on Long Island to win four major awards or recognition for quality in recent months, including for nursing excellence, women’s programs and top rankings from U.S. News & World Report and from the Joint Commission.
