Follow on Google News | One Rhythm, One Love; 'Beat Teams' to Deliver Hand Drums to Therapy Center in EcuadorTerra Rising Films' Instrument Donation Program continues to support emerging music therapy programs abroad
By: Terra Rising Films 'Beat Team's was created by Terra Rising Films' founder, Michael Ricucci in the early summer of 2013 and lead to the collection and distrubition of over 200 instruments with the help of 'Beat Teams' volunteers from around the US. "Everyone at Terra Rising is grateful to lend a hand in Ecuador. 'Beat Teams,' was created to address these kinds of issues and we hope to continue to build strong bridges between many cultures that gives a tangible meaning to music as a universal language," said Ricucci. "This is the time to grow music programs, not destroy them, and we are going to do everything that we can to cultivate and nurture the growth of music programs around the world, along with a lot of help from our friends," Ricucci commented. Angie Kopshy, the Director of Music Therapy Services of Portland, contacted Ricucci about collecting hand drums after she and her team were invited to present at the International Music Therapy Symposium. "Our training includes the use of stringed instruments, voice, keyboard, and drums. Providing Centro Integral de Equinoterapia (CIE) with drums will not only help us during our 3 day training for musicians, but will allow us to present this institute with drums that will be accessible to the seven-hundred children with disabilities that they serve," said Kopshy. "Drums are a great way to start a musical relationship and incorporate people of all ability levels. We hope that we can continue to assist with the growth of music therapy at CIE and these drums will help us keep the conversation and education going, long after we leave Ecuador," added Kopshy. 'Beat Teams' will be collecting hand drums through the month of August and then deliver them to the International Music Therapy Symposium in Guayaquil, Ecuador on September 4. If you have a hand drum that you would like to donate, contact Michael Ricucci through the email address below or through the Terra Rising website, www.terra-rising.com. Each instrument will go to help build the first ever music therapy program in the Guayaquil, Ecaudor. You can follow the instrument donation program through all Terra Rising social media channels as well as the hashtags #Drums4Ecuador and #TerraTour.
