ABOUT SPECULATIVE FICTION

"Speculative fiction (science fiction, fantasy, and horror) is the popular literature of ideas," Mr. Boyd stated.  "It asks 'why?', 'what will this lead to?', and 'is there a better way?' in a variety of forms which appeal to the mass market reader.  In this time when there is so much pressure for mindless conformity, encouraging people to think is more critical than ever.  This is what distinguishes Speculative Fiction from all other forms of popular literature."

ABOUT WORLDCON

Worldcon is the premiere speculative fiction convention, having been originally founded in 1939, and held annually in cities around the world.  The current event, dubbed 'Sasquan' is the 73rd Worldcon.

Activities include lecture programs, dance, costume masquerade, social activities, and a guest appearance by Dr. Kjell Lindgren live from the International Space Station.

Worldcon is also the official sponsor of the prestigious 'Hugo' award for best authorship in several categories.

Worldcon is notable as a 'book shoppers con', and Mister Boyd stated that he hopes this event will spread awareness of The Written Wyrd's imprint beyond the Pacific Northwest.
