PHOENIX - Aug. 4, 2015 - PRLog -- Pueblo Grande Indian Museum Auxiliary Indian Market:  for all that glitters, indeed!

Phoenix - Looking for that perfect something for someone special?  Pueblo Grande Indian Market is the place to find it.  Mark your calendar for a fun-filled weekend as the Pueblo Grande Museum Auxiliary hosts the 39th Annual Indian Market on December 12 & 13, 2015.  The market will be held on the site of Pueblo Grande Museum at 4619 E. Washington St., Phoenix.  Gates open at 9 am both days and tickets are starting at only $10 per person, with FREE entry for children 12 and under. You won’t want to miss it, especially if you are holiday shopping.

At the Market you’ll find one-of-a-kind pottery in an array of shapes and sizes.  Beautiful instruments for play and display will be for sale along with clothing featuring intricate bead-work, fringe and colorful motifs.  If you’re looking for some sparkle, shop the many booths showcasing necklaces, rings, cuffs and pins for sale. Chat with the artists who created them and learn about what inspired them.  Take home a piece that’s authentic and hand-made by American Indian artists.  Share their stories.

The 2015 Featured Artist of the 39th Annual Pueblo Grande Museum Indian Market is Jay Jacob Livingston, working artist and third generation silversmith.  We asked him how he feels about being showcased this year and he responded, “As an honored featured artist I designed a piece titled, Burst Arrowhead Bolo. I contemplated so many ideas however my mind kept returning to a bolo tie I had made years ago. I always wanted to elaborate on that particular piece. At that time I knew I could make that particular piece better but almost every artist believes that about their art. Now that the opportunity presented itself and as I had mentioned in my mind’s eye the returning image, I chose to make another bolo tie. Every one of my pieces is unique, never the same. This bolo has a Nevada Blue Spider Web turquoise shaped like an arrowhead in the center with a burst feather fan affect. It is bordered with a rug design layout including four arrowheads depicting the four sacred directions. This turquoise bolo represents a form of protection thus the arrowhead design. It is entirely handmade from sheets of sterling silver, inlayed with precious stones such as turquoise and coral even down to the hand braided leather strap. I enjoyed making this bolo tie especially now that I’ve incorporated other techniques.  The fine inlay of small stones demands patience which is challenging however very rewarding. I am pleased with the outcome. As an artist we can work on a piece for a short time or have the idea of it in our minds for years before we even begin to work on it. I’m honored for the opportunity to make my art come to life!”

This year’s entertainment lineup includes:

The Jones Benally Family | Navajo/Diné traditional dance, World Champion Hoop Dancer from Black Mesa, Arizona

Aaron White | Grammy nominated artist, Native American Music Award Recipient, Award winning Flute Maker and a singer/songwriter/instrumentalist from Flagstaff, Arizona

Gabriel Ayala | A member of the Yaqui people of southern Arizona, Gabriel Ayala(Guitarist) is at the forefront of a new generation of Native Americans making a career performing classical music.  He earned a Master’s Degree in Music Performance from the University of Arizona in 1997, has taught at all educational levels from elementary through college, and serves as a competition adjudicator.

James Junes has been doing comedy for 10 years both as a SOLO Comedy Act/Guest Speaker and Actor and is part of the award winning duo "JAMES & ERNIE COMEDY" and also part of "49 LAUGHS COMEDY".
