July 26, 2015 Surf City, NJ- A beautiful, sunny, breezy day set the scene for Alice’s first appearance at The BookWorm in Surf City.  Alice arrived in a stylish wardrobe of all pink and spikes to promote her new and innovative book A Dog’s Tail: Alice’s hindsight of alcohol abuse in her family and to offer her “pawtograph” to all of her adoring new fans.

And if shoppers and passer-byers in the plaza were not previous fans of Alice and her book, they certainly left as fans!

Written by new and upcoming author Jamie A Landsman, A Dog’s Tail: Alice’s hindsight of alcohol abuse in her family is narrated by Alice the Rottweiler and is the first of its series with the second title due out soon. A Dog's Tail is a picture book story that explores the impact parental alcohol abuse had on Alice and her family. The story begins during Alice's puppy years and continues into her dog years. Readers of all ages can gain insight into the effects of alcohol abuse from a perspective that us humans have been unable to hear from before. The story can be used to open up discussion with a child about substance abuse or to bring to light the possible consequences of it and can also be used to initiate discussions about death and loss. The book is highly recommended for: parents, mental health professionals, children, school guidance counselors, child welfare workers, young adult parents, individuals in recovery or engaged in substance abuse treatment and grandparents.

The book recently caught the attention of The Sandpaper News reporter Rick Mellerup, who introduced Ms. Landsman and Alice to Sandpaper audiences two weeks prior to Alice’s first appearance at The BookWorm on the bright and sunny Sunday of July 26  in his article featured in the online July 15 edition of The Sandpaper, and in the July 22 hard copy edition . Although the “meet and greet event” had been scheduled to take place from 11:00AM- 2:00PM, Alice had her first fan ready and waiting to meet her slightly before 11:00, while her human finished setting up the display table on the front porch. Alice gladly offered her paw as Landsman assisted her with leaving her paw printed autograph on one of the first pages, and Alice followed by continuously offering her paw to her adoring fan. This seemed to be the trend throughout the day with Alice gently throwing her paw out to everyone who came within her path, and the vast majority of customers to arrive had first learned about Alice and A Dog’s Tail from Rick Mellerup’s Sandpaper article. Couples pulling up on their bicycles saw Alice and gleefully and excitedly stated, “There she is! That’s Alice!” Of course there was not one mention of Alice’s name that went by unnoticed both by her and Landsman and Landsman reported that she was happy with the turnout at the event, and that she and Alice were able to sell quite a few books, while more importantly, getting their story out there. Landsman and Alice offered passer-byers complimentary bookmarks and stickers to commemorate their encounter with the lovable Rottweiler. Dozens entered the raffle to win the free limited edition hardcopy edition of the book, with the resulting winner being a Barnegat resident named Mariann who had been one of the first arrivals to the “meet and greet.” Landsman and Alice plan on returning to The BookWorm for a second book signing event within the next few weeks, with the date to be announced shortly. LBI locals and vacationers alike were both very friendly and welcoming to Alice and Landsman, as was shop owner Juliana Doll. “From the very second we arrived, she was offering water and coffee to Alice and I. She made us feel right at home and her shop has a very welcoming, warm presence.” Landsman reported she may be appearing in an upcoming in-studio interview at WOBM but has no specifics to add at this time, just that she “is very excited that everyone is recognizing how truly precious and unique A Dog’s Tail is, and its potential to really help people.” For further information, or to contact Alice or her human go to www.sharingadogstail.com.
