Follow on Google News | The Carlyn 28, Florida Seniors Suffering ShockinglyReports state one Manager at a 55+ Park in Manatee County has decided that she doesn't like any of her residents receiving food from a local food pantry that delivers to the shut ins on site. Recipients are going hungry rather than risk eviction.
By: Manatee County Senior Advocacy Council, Inc. It all started with one small food pantry van driving into the community and parking. Neighbors riding bicycles, in golf carts and on foot distribute carefully to residents in need who have pre-registered with the pantry. An inspection occurs in each home to make sure no one is accepting more food than what is being consumed in order to avoid wasting of food. These residents may not qualify for food stamps and depend on deliveries. More details are found online at http://manateesenioradvocacy.org. The manager followed around people creating a "high tension" feeling using her camera to record the much needed food distribution. Her employees intimidated residents by threatening to physically hurt them. A threat of "we are going to find your corpse", was made to an especially weak elderly and feeble resident by an employee of the park. These residents in Manatee County consist of low Income Seniors and Seniors with multiple disabilities. They have been threatened with bodily harm and immediate eviction if the seniors accept one more food delivery from a local food pantry that supplements these Seniors who can not afford to purchase food and many who do not have the ability to personally get to the pantry or food bank to pick up their own food. The 28 neighbors all living in separate units at Carlyn Estates in Palmetto, Florida in Manatee County have banded together helping each other and looking out for one another. They have earned the nickname of the "Carlyn 28". These victims of a ruthless manager have worked hard to create positive lives, some of whom are volunteers themselves, helping other seniors on a weekly basis. One good Samaritan sat with an 87 year old woman battling cancer and diabetes who was holding a folder full of threatening letters and evictions threats just for needing food. It's tough to make sense of it. The manager refuses to comment. Even small donations will make a big difference. The Manatee Senior Advocacy Council, Inc. volunteers are raising money for food, transportation, legal fees and other emergency costs to help these residents turn their suffering into hope and a better more safe future.
