July 8, 2015 - PRLog -- Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States. Because treatment options are limited for patients with advanced and metastatic disease, early-stage diagnosis is absolutely critical for improving patient prognosis. Despite some advances, further research is necessary to identify novel diagnostic, therapeutic, and screening approaches that will lessen the morbidity and mortality associated with these cancers.

The matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) and the tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase (TIMP) families of proteins both play important roles in colorectal tumor metastasis, and thus are attractive targets for biomedical research. MMPs belong to a family of zinc-dependent endopeptidases that hydrolyze components of the extracellular matrix (ECM) and contribute to angiogenesis, inflammation, tissue destruction, and migration and invasion of cancer cells. Although TIMP family proteins serve to inhibit MMP proteolytic activity, TIMPs also exert oncogenic activity by enhancing the metastatic potential of cancer cells during late stages of tumor growth. Thus, there remains much to be understood about the roles of MMPs and TIMPs in colorectal carcinogenesis.

GeneTex proudly offers a large selection of high-quality antibodies for colorectal cancer research. Our panel of highly specific and sensitive reagents includes antibodies against MMP1, -2, -7, -9, -12, -13, and TIMP1, -2, -3 and -4, all of which are validated for multiple applications. Please see below to view our large panel of colorectal cancer-related antibodies and consider whether these reagents can help accelerate your research.
