Follow on Google News | Inspiring Smiles Series Features Orthodontic Treatments Educational LectureBy: Carriage Trade PR Orthodontic treatments, such as braces and aligners, can correct crooked or crowded teeth, overbites or underbites, incorrect jaw position and disorders of the jaw joints. If left untreated, these problems can result in tooth decay, gum disease, headaches and earaches, as well as speaking, biting or chewing problems. Dr. Canfield will explain the differences between the different orthodontic treatments available. Canfield said, “These days, adults make up nearly half of orthodontic patients trying get that perfect smile. In fact, approximately 20% of braces wearers are over the age of 18.” Metal braces apply continuous pressure to gradually reposition teeth. As the teeth move, the bone changes shape as pressure is applied. Clear ceramic braces are essentially the same as traditional metal braces except they are closer in color to your teeth and less noticeable. One other alternative to consider is clear aligners which are similar to braces to use a graudual force to control tooth movement, but without metal wires or brackets. “Braces have evolved considerably in the last 15 years. The days of having a ‘metal mouth’ are over and more lightweight and cosmetically friendly options are available,” said Canfield, “Alignment issues can now be corrected without feeling embarrassed or experiencing discomfort and pain usually associated with traditional braces.” The Inspiring Smiles Series will take place at Dr. Canfield’s office located at 7360 Skidaway Rd., Suite H2. It is free to attend, but there is an encouraged donation to the Savannah Children’s Theatre. To RSVP, call Dr. Canfield at 912-349-0472. ABOUT DR.
