BioCommunications Assn Awards Best of Show, 11 Awards of Excellence in 2015 BioImages Competition

BioImages showcases the finest photography, graphic design, and videography in the life sciences and medicine
 
HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. - July 2, 2015 - PRLog -- Christine Goerner, the senior graphic designer/creative manager at The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, was awarded Best of Show for her brochure, “RCH Education Institute Year in Review 2013-14,” in the BioCommunications Association’s 2015 BioImages competition, which showcases the finest photography, graphic design, and videography in the life sciences and medicine.

Best of Show is awarded for the most outstanding entry from the Award of Excellence winners. Goerner’s brochure also received the Award of Excellence in the Graphics Media: Brochure Flyer category. She also received an Award of Excellence in the Graphics Media: Specialty category for “The Royal Children’s Hospital Sugar Glider In Room Guide”. The Award of Excellence is awarded to entries that achieve the highest standards of professionalism.

Other Award of Excellence Winners:

Margaret Pearson, from the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, received an Award of Excellence in the Still Media: Clinical category for her photo, “Viral Warts to dorsum of hand”.

Oliver Meckes from eye of science, received an Award of Excellence in the Still Media: Electron Micrograph category for her photo, “Tooth development: Odontoblasts”.

Mitsuyoshi Yabe, an interactive digital designer intern from the American Museum of Natural History, received an Award of Excellence in the Still Media: Fine Art category for his photo, “The Layer”.

Karna McKinney, FBCA (retired), received an Award of Excellence in the Still Media: Natural Science category for her photo, “Land iguana with major food source (Conolophus subcristatus)”.

Norm Barker, MA, MS, RBP, FBCA, FRPS, a professor of Pathology and Art as Applied to Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University, received an Award of Excellence in the Still Media: Photomicrograph category for his photo, “Red Fossil Coral, x20”.

Ted Kinsman, assistant professor of Photographic Arts & Sciences in the College of Imaging Arts & Sciences at the Rochester Institute of Technology, received an Award of Excellence in the Still Media: Specimen category for his photo, “False Color X-ray of a Shovel Nose Ray”.

Taina Litwak, CMI, a scientific illustrator with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service’s Systematic Entomology Laboratory, received an Award of Excellence in the Still Media: Natural Science Illustration category for her illustration, “Two new species of Cerembycid beetle”, and in the Graphics Media: Poster category for “Joshua tree and the Yucca Moth”.

Fabian de Kok-Mercado, MA-CMI, a scientific illustrator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, received an Award of Excellence in the Motion Media: Video category for “Coral Bleaching: A Breakdown of Symbiosis”.

Winners were announced at the BioImages Honors Reception and Awards Banquet June 22, 2015 in Sante Fe, NM held in conjunction with BCA’s 2015 Annual Meeting.
