"Celebrating 6 Years of Supporting The Future"

DALLAS - July 1, 2015 - PRLog -- Dallas, TX. July 1, 2015 –On Saturday, March 26,2016, AIDS Walk South Dallas will celebrate its 6^th year anniversary hosted by the historical Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center located at 2922 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Dallas. This year's theme "Supporting The Future" extends the mission which is to inspire, educate and galvanize the community of South Dallas and surrounding areas to continue to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS and assist those impacted. AWSD will offer a variety of groups, nonprofits and businesses an amazing opportunity to make a difference and get your message out to the people that live and work in the Dallas area and abroad that are either infected or affected by HIV/AIDS.

With the generous support from businesses, groups, organizations and more media coverage than ever, this year’s walk welcomed over 200 registered walkers, over 500 attendees and raised almost $30,000. AWSD marked for Saturday, March 26, 2016, our goal is to raise $50,000 and have 500 walkers.With your help, we can achieve it!

Funds raised will benefit The Afiya Center whose mission is to end reproductive oppression among marginalized black women and girls through re-education and engendering empowerment of sexual and reproductive health disparities including HIV.  Funds will also benefit Abounding Prosperity, Inc. whose mission is to provide services that address health, social and economic disparities among black men with a particular emphasis on gay, bisexual and male to female transgender individuals and their families in Dallas County. “With over 15, 000 people living with HIV/AIDS in Dallas County, this is not just a walk for the cause; this is about CHANGE in our community”, said Auntjuan Wiley, AWSD Event Chair , who has already begun working around the clock in an effort to gain exposure and excitement about this remarkable opportunity once again. “Until There’s a Cure” is his motto in making this event successful.

AIDS Walk Dallas, Inc., a 501(c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit organization was founded in 2009 and the mission is to empower persons infected and affected by HIV/AIDS with an emphasis on African-American MSM’s (Men Who Have Sex with Men), through prevention, advocacy, education, peer support and emergency financial assistance.  With AWSD being the primary fundraiser, the organization is excited to have already secured an Individual Title Sponsor as well as a Corporate Title Sponsor through the generosity of  J Anderson Lester, a 30+ year registered nurse and philanthropist as well as Walgreens, the leading retail pharmacy and a supporter of AWSD for the last 5 years.
