By: En Voyage Perfumes
SAN FRANCISCO - July 1, 2015 - PRLog -- Award winning Artisanal Perfumer Shelley Waddington of En Voyage Perfumes became a worldwide sensation when she launched the cult fragrance ZELDA Eau de Parfum in 2013. Now Ms. Waddington is inspired by the complicated and controversial life of the iconic Mexican artist of Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderó… Frida Khalo.
Frida Khalo’s life has been chronicled in books, movies, and fashion editorials and now, with Frida Eau de Parfum, her story is told note by note.
According to Ms. Waddington, “When I first saw photos of Mexican Artist and Style icon Frida Kahlo, I wanted to know more about her; charismatic and unforgettable, Frida Khalo jolie laide beauty has been part of pop culture for over 50 yrs. Frida became my muse, inspiring me to compose a perfume in her honor that celebrates the woman, the artist, her suffering, her Mexican heritage and love of nature.
“Kahlo has become as famous for her unconventional style as she is for her autobiographical paintings,” continues Ms. Waddington. “Although her body was wracked by pain, Frida was feminine, fearless and a revolutionary;
Tuberose, a flower that the Aztecs called the Boneflower, is an important note in the perfume, forming an homage to Frida’s broken body. Other notes include the hibiscus that she wore in her hair as well as the tropical blossoms and plants of Frida’s garden. The perfumer has also devoted close attention to other details of Frida’s life – the heat, the earth, the smells of her heavy hair and the sweat of her body.
