Grand Care Companions offers four distinct levels of in-home personal care
NAUGATUCK, Conn. - June 30, 2015 - PRLog -- “What distinguishes Grand Care Companions from other home care service agencies in Connecticut is that we offer four very distinct levels of in-home personal care services provided by caregivers who complete an intensive, thorough training program approved by the Connecticut Office of Higher Education (CTOHE),” stated Chet Doheny, executive director of Grand Care Companions, the newly-launched division of ICES, Inc. in Naugatuck. “We are the only home care agency in Connecticut that requires our personnel to receive this high level of training.”

The privately-owned Grand Care Companions care service agency offers Home Companion services, Homemaker services, Personal Care Assistant services, plus Transition Care Specialist services for individuals throughout New Haven, Fairfield and Litchfield Counties, specializing in working with individuals with disabilities, including Dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Home Companions trained through Grand Care Companions are non-medical caregivers who work with individuals in the comfort and safety of their own homes without interruption to their daily routines or schedules. These caregivers provide attentive care and create customized activities that help foster a better quality of life with improved access to their family and friends.

Homemaker services assist individuals with maintaining a safe and clean environment within their own homes. Their responsibilities may include meal preparation, cooking, light housekeeping, errands, medication reminders, and as-needed transportation.

Personal Care Assistants provide a level of care beyond Home Companions and Homemakers in that they provide hands-on attention for bathing, dressing and daily grooming needs. They are also specially trained to provide compassionate care to individuals with disabilities, Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease.

Transition Care Specialists’ primary focus is ensuring that an individual in their care is receiving the highest level of care through Grand Care Companions’ Services.  Transition Care Specialists oversee and manage every aspect of an individual’s daily care including tasks such as engaging a nutritionist, seeking a medical specialist or acting as a liaison, consultant, intermediary or sounding board to ensure that consistent caregiving services are provided to an individual by working closely with that person’s family members to create a customized package of care.

“The primary goal for all our caregivers is to help families feel confident that their loved one is safe at all times and being kept as mentally and physically active as possible through their daily activities and schedules. All of our Grand Care Companions provide attentive personal care while promoting activities for an individual in their care that will keep that person engaged with their regular community and family.”

Following an initial in-home assessment by a Transition Care Specialist, a Grand Care Companion is assigned according to that person’s needs. “Historically, non-medical companions in Connecticut have not been trained to provide the special level of care required to keep a person with a disability, Dementia or Alzheimer’s continually safe and engaged in activities that stimulate their minds and bodies,” explained Doheny. “Our Personal Care Assistants are highly-trained to do exactly that. All of our Grand Care Companions provide encouraging activities specific to an individual’s lifestyle and personal preferences.

Our caregivers draw on the hobbies, interests and personal experiences of the individual they are caring for to create activities that range widely from simply accompanying someone on walks to helping an individual prepare their favorite meals. Most importantly, each caregiver, at every care level, continually strives to keep the person in their care safe and comfortable.”

Ensuring that an individual is safe and actively engaged in activities through respectful, compassionate and attentive care is a primary ambition of every Grand Care Companion. “Our caregivers,” explained Doheny, “gently guide an individual in their care through daily living. The ambition is to assist individuals to safely and confidently live in their homes, and as independently as they can throughout their daily lives. These services are invaluable to families who want to keep their loved one living in their own home but cannot give them the personalized, attentive care they yearn to provide.”

Grand Care Companions also offers Distance Care services to include remote ‘video care’, chat services and community companionship services. These services are especially welcomed for families who do not live close to their loved one but want to do what they can to ensure their daily comfort and safety.
