CORONA, Calif. - June 25, 2015 - PRLog -- With the arrival of summer, author and business strategist Monica Carter Tagore shares three tips for entrepreneurial employees who want to leverage their expertise for added income and opportunities. This is timely, as summertime might mean a slowdown at many workplaces across the country. This can be a golden opportunity for hardworking employees who want to turn this downturn into a time to add money to their pockets.

In fact, summertime is an ideal time for entrepreneurial workers to turn their  know-how into a side gig or part-time work, if they have knowledge or a skill others find valuable. For the entrepreneurial employee who is wondering if this applies to him or her, it does: If you work a day job where someone is paying you to do a certain type of work now, chances are, you do have expertise or a skill others would pay for.

Here are three ways entrepreneurial workers can turn what they know into a side gig or part-time business to supplement the income from the day job.

1. Consult. A knowledgeable employee can turn that expertise into help others can use in their work. If you understand a process or know how to get results in a certain area, then others would pay you to help them produce results. As a consultant, you can help others find the problem areas in what they are doing and make a recommendation for fixing the problems. Your consulting work may even involve actually fixing the problem, depending on the agreement you set.

2. Teach. So you know how to do a certain thing. Well, why not teach others to do it? While your local college may be an option for a continuing education program, you may also look at other opportunities. Does your local Chamber of Commerce or business group offer any kind of conferences during the summer? If so, is the organization looking for speakers or presenters? Prepare a proposal and you could be one of the selected few conducting a workshop or seminar there! You can also organize your own self-hosted event, such as a workshop or seminar you hold at a local library, restaurant, hotel, or other meeting area.

3. Freelance. Hire yourself out as a freelancer and turn your skills into help for other organizations. For instance, if you are a designer, you can do design work on a freelance basis and work with local businesses, nonprofits, and other organizations to help them with their design needs.

All three of these are low-cost ways entrepreneurial employees can turn their expertise into a side gig during the slow summer months.
