By: Simien & Miniex Each year, the Miniex and Simien Families award scholarships to deserving graduates who demonstrate excellence in academia with a goal to further their education. This award was established to honor the beliefs of Virginia Miniex and Margo St. Julian Simien that getting a good education is pivotal in a young person’s life and creates the foundation to prepare them for the future. Additionally the committee presents a Legacy Award. This award honors legacies of the name sakes of the scholarship who exemplify outstanding scholastic achievements. The recipients recognized this year are, in no particular order, Russell Williams, a 3.47 GPA graduate of Opelousas High School who plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and major in Architecture, Jandrenique Taylor, a 3.87 GPA graduate of West St. Mary High School, who plans to attend Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and major in International Trade/Business and Imani Harvin, a 3.11 GPA graduate of Northside High School who plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and major in Early Childhood Education. The 2015 Legacy Award recipient is Bobby Miniex, a 3.21 GPA graduate of Beau Chene High School, who plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and major in Computer Engineering. End
