Confronting homelessness in the nation’s capital: Pauperism Project aids large homeless population at Franklin Square in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON – June 27, 2015 – Pauperism Project, Inc., a locally established non-profit organization formed to provide relief to chronically homeless individuals in the Washington, D.C. area, will host an outreach event at Franklin Square Park on Saturday, June 27. Volunteers will be on site from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. to distribute food and toiletry items to people in need.

The predominately youth-led organization, founded in 2010 by 29-year-old Monika Mason, an MBA student at Johns Hopkins University, has coordinated various homeless outreach efforts in the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia areas over the past several years; each being highly successful. Pauperism Project welcomes energy, positivity, a great smile and room to serve.

“Given our nation’s growing population of homelessness, Pauperism Project is committed to giving hope back to those men, women and children, regardless of age or race, who seem to have lost all their hope and faith,” said founder Monika Mason. “Aside from providing tangible items like food and clothes, we also provide valuable information and guidance counseling to those seeking to escape their current situations.”

Pauperism Project has served approximately 250 people per outreach with the help of local sponsors like DC Central Kitchen, Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Lanham, MD, E3 Federal Solutions and Silver Spring, MD Whole Foods Market. In addition, Brian Bosley, CEO of Solar Stik, provides the organization with much needed donations. Pauperism Project has also garnered support from national brands including the Panera Bread Company to provide Day-End Dough-Nation™.

During the June 27 event, Pauperism Project will be introducing its partnership with Comfort Cases, a local organization dedicated to providing aid to children in foster care and shelters, in order to promote the organization’s long-term focus to target youth homelessness.
