The Future of Daycare Enrollment

A Canadian startup company has announced that their app CubbySpot, which is designed to connect Parents with Childcare Services in their area, has been placed among the 30 Finalists within the GIST Tech-I Competition

TORONTO - June 22, 2015 - PRLog -- TORONTO, June 22, 2015 -- A new Toronto-based startup company called CubbySpot has been placed among the 30 finalists within the GIST Tech-I Global Competition. CubbySpot is a mobile app that helps parents find the best available daycare for their child and enables these child care services to easily fill open vacancies.

“Trying to find the right daycare can be a nightmare,” said Regnard Raquedan, the Co-founder of CubbySpot. “Our own personal experience sparked the inspiration for CubbySpot, a platform that helps parents search for daycares, sign up to waiting lists, get updates on their waitlist status, and confirm enrolment all from their mobile phone.”

The concept of CubbySpot began when two recent immigrants to Canada, Regnard Raquedan and his wife Liza began searching for a daycare to enroll their daughter. After making several phone calls, visitations, and getting onto waiting lists - the couple soon began to realize that finding the perfect daycare can be a daunting task. Although they were able to find a daycare at the last minute for their daughter, the Raquedan family knew they had to make the process easier for other parents. After creating the perfect idea and several prototypes, the CubbySpot app was born. Since then, the family is gradually finding success and recognition within the industry.

Earlier this year, CubbySpot was chosen to participate in the Toronto Founder Institute, the world’s largest startup launch program. Out of the initial 99 participants that were enrolled in the difficult accelerator program, only 58 of them made it through the first week, and only 14 of them actually graduated and CubbySpot was one of them. The company went on to be the only Canadian-based startup company to reach the finals of the GIST Tech-I Competition.

The Global Innovation through Science and Technology or ‘GIST’ Tech-I Competition is an annual competition for science and technology entrepreneurs from emerging economies worldwide. Aspiring innovators submit their ideas and startups in an application that is then reviewed by a team of expert panelists and then voted on by the public. This year, the GIST Tech-I Competition received a record number of over 790 applications from 74 countries throughout the world.

Thirty finalists were chosen to participate in the competition and have been awarded with an all-expense paid trip to the Global Entrepreneurship Summit which will take place in July 2015 in Nairobi, Kenya. During the event, these up-and-coming scientists and entrepreneurs will receive two days of intensive training and networking with global leaders in their fields. In order to determine the winners of the competition, finalists will compete in a live pitching final to an audience. The two winners of the GIST Tech-I Competition will receive a grant to help jumpstart their company, one-on-one mentorship, and professional training.

The CubbySpot App will be available for download in August 2015. Support Regnard and Liza Raquedan as they embark on a journey to the Global Entrepreneurship Summit by visiting their website directly at http://www.cubbyspot.com.
