Sterlite Copper Honours District Toppers with ‘Sterlite Scholastic Excellence Awards’

TUTICORIN, India - June 20, 2015 - PRLog -- Thoothukudi, 20 June 2015: Sterlite Copper, a unit of Vedanta Limited has awarded a total of Rs.7 lakh to 32 toppers across 20 schools in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu under its marquee ‘Sterlite Scholastic Excellence Awards’ programme held today at Subbiah Vidyalayam Girls Higher Secondary School, Thoothukudi.

Committed to the empowerment of communities around its operations, these awards are a continuance of company’s pledge to nation-building through the youth of the country.

This is the seventeenth edition of ‘Sterlite Scholastic Excellence Awards’ for the Thoothukudi district toppers in Std X and XII of Government, General and Corporation schools.

Mr M Ramakrishanan, Chief Educational Officer of Thoothukudi District and Mr P. Ramnath, CEO, Sterlite Copper (Copper Business of Vedanta Limited), Thoothukudi presented the certificates and the cash awards to the meritorious students and schools.

Speaking on the delightful occasion, Mr M Ramakrishanan, Chief Educational Officer of Thoothukudi District said, “I appreciate the efforts taken by Sterlite Copper to motivate underprivileged children to go for higher education and congrats to the awardees on their achievement. District toppers were presented merit certificates and cash award based on their first, second and third position. Nine students from Std XII and Twenty Three students from Std X received the awards. For Std XII toppers, the first position awardees received INR 50,000, while the second place holders received INR 30,000 followed by INR 20,000 for the third positions. The Std X toppers received INR 25,000, INR 20,000 and 15,000 respectively. A total sum of 7.00 lakh cash prize was awarded to 32 toppers from 20 varied schools in Thoothukudi.
