By: Live Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation, Inc. "We believe that education is empowerment and with the right enablement our children will be equipped to enter adulthood with healthier habits that will improve the quality of their lives long-term. To that end, we will continue to do this important work," said Lori A. Manns, founder and president of Live Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation, Inc. The camp is open for children ages 5-12 and grades K to 5. The camp features both indoor and outdoor activities which are designed to educate children about nutrition, healthy foods, dance, aerobics, kickboxing and Zumba. The children will learn about teamwork as they will be divided into groups to create their own healthy recipes for the chefs to review. For the second year in a row, medical professionals from Morehouse School of Medicine and Essential Medical Care will be the instructors for the health portion of the camp. In addition, kids will sample healthy foods made by Chef Hairston of Custom Creations Catering of Atlanta. The fitness portion of the camp will be led by fitness trainer K. Crawley of H.I.T. Squad Fitness of Atlanta. Narvie J. Harris Traditional Theme School was established in 1998 and is a part of the Dekalb County school system in the metropolitan Atlanta area. The school is located at 3981 McGill Drive in Decatur, GA. The Healthy Kids Summer Camp will take place from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. the week of June 22-26 and is free for all students.
