Discover Bat Trang ceramic village with Threeland

HANOI, Viet Nam - June 18, 2015 - PRLog -- Making pottery has been long known as the long – standing tradition of Vietnam. The old ceramic village named Bat Trang was formed and developed probably because of this reason. This original craft village has now become one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Hanoi.

The village was formed along the left bank of Red River between the XIV and the XV century.

From centuries ago, Bat Trang pottery has been considered the top class pottery. However, at that time, the village mainly produced worship objects such as candlesticks, incense burners or vases. Not until there were changes in taste and market demand did the village begin to produce ceramic appliances. Nowadays, the traditional craft village offers visitors not only these ceramic worship objects or appliances but also ceramic art objects, ceramic construction materials and antique imitation pottery. Today, the old types of pottery will only be made if there are orders received. Visiting Bat Trang village, you are sure to be taken aback by the original and amazing ceramic craft items. The ceramists here are such talented people to be able to create such masterpieces.

Visiting the village today, visitors cannot believe that there used to be the time when the pottery was on the verge of disappearance. At that time, there were only a few pottery kilns left with low quality ceramic products. To maintain the village until today, the ceramists here must have had a really ‘ardent love’ for the job.

Bat Trang pottery has 5 different types of glazes which are typical for each period of time. Blue gaze is the first type of glaze to appear in Bat Trang. Then they came up with brown glaze which represents the traditional styles. The creamy – white glaze which is suitable for embossed patterns appeared in the 17th century. And finally by hard work, the enthusiastic ceramists have found out the secret behind the Vietnamese ancient matte and crackle glazes. These achievements have created the diversity of ceramic products.

Tourists can discover the village in two ways: by joining a buffalo tour or taking a walk. You may find not only those stores selling pottery along the roads in the village but also the market where you can see how the ceramic products are made. There are also shops where you can experience being a real ceramist for one day. It would be really meaningful if you give the self – made pottery to your family and friends as gifts.Making pottery has been long known as the long – standing tradition of Vietnam.
