Spence-Chapin Now Accepting Applications from Waitlisted Families Looking to Adopt Infants Domestically

NEW YORK - June 17, 2015 - PRLog -- Spence-Chapin Services to Families and Children, a non-profit adoption and family services agency, announced today they are accepting applications from families on their waitlist for domestic infant adoption.

“For more than 100 years, we have operated our domestic infant adoption program,” says Adam Cotumaccio, President, Spence-Chapin. “Because of our continued success over this past year, we can once again open up this vital program to our waiting list of families.” The Domestic Adoption Program supports Spence-Chapin’s mission of providing adoption and adoption-related services of the highest quality. Additionally, the program supports Spence-Chapin’s work of finding homes for older children, sibling groups and children with special needs.

“The Domestic Adoption Program is the program on which Spence-Chapin was founded,” says Antoinette Cockerham, LCSW, Director, Domestic Adoption Program, Spence-Chapin. “It is core to who we are as an agency. The adoption services that we provide to birth parents, their children, and to adoptive parents are vital in many communities.”

As birth parents and families start their adoption journey, Spence-Chapin's team of experienced social workers provides guidance, education and emotional support throughout the process. In addition to adoption services, Spence-Chapin offers supportive, non-judgmental, comprehensive options counseling to women trying to plan for the future of their infants –whether they decide to parent themselves, to seek family support, to apply for public assistance or to explore adoption. “The hospitals and institutions that serve pregnant women increasingly value the confidential counseling services we provide to women,” Cockerham says. “And as a result, many more are turning to us for support and counseling. This enables us to help more birth parents make an informed choice for their child’s future,” says Cockerham.
