North America's Largest Historical European Martial Arts Event Returns to Las Vegas for Fourth Year
By: Combat Con
CombatCon is where Western Martial Arts (WMA) like fencing and swordfighting are taught side-by-side with pop culture classes such as fighting like a superhero and theatrical combat. One can take WMA instruction from internationally known masters, learn fighting styles made famous by pop culture like Sherlock Holmes' bartitsu, and take theatrical fighting or stunt classes for stage and screen. Self-defence and practical courses taught by ex-military are also offered.

The event is expected to attract an estimated 1,000-1,500 participants and spectators. Twenty-year WMA practitioner and Media Coordinator Kristi Charron says "CombatCon is a great place for families to check out It's historical, educational, and fun!" The cosplay contest, which is open to all ages, is a popular draw for families. "The Palms Casino Resort is an ideal place for this event," explains Kirby. "It's easy for locals to get to, and a welcome escape for those visiting from out of town."
Western Martial Arts and Historical European Martial Arts are the arts of self-defense and combat of Europe and the Americas. They include many forms, systems, styles, and schools, all with the specific goal of keeping the practitioner safe in life and death combat. Some have become sports over time or have evolved into modern adaptations of the old material. The common element that they all share, however, is serious study, an adherence to the principles of martial arts, and a common European root.
