GALVESTON, Texas - June 5, 2015 - PRLog -- African American Museum Juneteenth Family & Friends Festival

Galveston, TX
The American celebration known as Juneteenth originated on the island of Galveston Texas two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Slaves were never told about their freedom and kept in bondage another two and a half years until the arrival of Union Major General Gordon Granger.

General Granger came with the news on June 19th 1865 that the war was over, the slaves were now free and that he and his union troops would remain in Galveston to enforce it.

This celebration continues with the African American Museum Juneteenth Family & Friends Festival. Hear Taste and See Featuring Blues, Zydeco, Gospel and R&B performers, as well as southern culinary delights such as Bar-B-Que, Crawfish, Seafood and much more. The festival ground will also include a children's play area.
