WASHINGTON - June 2, 2015 - PRLog -- Girls in Politics ("GIP") launched a social campaign, inviting young women between the ages of 8 and 17 to participate in the #GIRLINTHEWHITEHOUSE™ movement.

"Since creating Camp Congress for Girls in 2011, I've watched thousands of girls participating in our program identify the challenges facing our nation – both domestically and abroad – then work together to craft comprehensive and viable legislation to solve the challenges," said Kimberly Mitchem-Rasmussen, Director and Creator of the Girls in Politics Initiative.  "As the 2016 presidential candidates begin to emerge, I think this is the perfect time to launch a platform that gives our girls a voice in the upcoming presidential election; an opportunity for girls to tell the country what issues are important to them."

Between now and November 8, 2016, GIP wants 2,016,000 girls to submit a video sharing what they would do if they were the president of the United States.

In a "pulse poll" conducted by Girl Scouts Research Institute, 82 percent of girls acknowledge that servicing in a political capacity is not a common goal for girls their age.  When asked to choose, 61 percent say they would rather be a movie star than the president of the United States.

Noting that the United States is long overdue for a woman president, the #GIRLINTHEWHITEHOUSE™ campaign will further normalize the idea of a woman in the White House.
