Follow on Google News | Texas Residents with Immune System Deficiencies Cautioned to be on the Lookout for Indoor MoldIndoor Environmental Consultants (IEC) provides mold and air testing services to help prevent exposure to pathogenic fungi that may now be present in water-damaged properties.
By: Indoor Environmental Consultants, Inc. All of this moisture has residents on the lookout for mold growth in their homes and businesses and those with a weakened immune system should be extra vigilant. One type of mold that is frequently found in water-damaged buildings is known as Aspergillus. Although many people may be exposed to it without getting sick, people with weakened immune systems or lung diseases are at higher risk of developing health problems due to exposure. These may include allergic reactions, lung infections, and infections in other organs. Aspergillosis is the name of infections caused by Aspergillus. There are several different kinds of aspergillosis. One is known as allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA), a condition where the fungus causes allergic respiratory symptoms, such as wheezing and coughing, but does not actually invade and destroy tissue. Another type is invasive aspergillosis, a disease that usually affects people with immune system problems. In this condition, the fungus invades and damages tissues in the body. Invasive aspergillosis most commonly affects the lungs, but can also cause infection in other organs and can spread throughout the body. “Exposure to high levels of indoor mold is not healthy for anyone, but this is especially true for people with immune system deficiencies,” IEC’s indoor environmental quality experts provide testing for Aspergillus and other types of fungal and bacterial contaminants following flood and water damage.
