Rediscovered Radio Records Reveal Reporter Razed by Ruffians

ALBANY, Ga. - May 28, 2015 - PRLog -- Stop the presses! Wartime romance, a grisly murder, and a plot to frame an innocent newspaper reporter for a heinous crime resurface in rediscovered World War II radio scripts from the lost CBS series, Lady of the Press.

Albany, GA –BearManor Media releases Lady of the Press Radio’s Lost Romantic-Mystery Series edited by Larry Groebe.

Lady of the Press intrigued and entertained radio listeners from 1944 to 1945, when daily 15-minute episodes were broadcast over a handful of West Coast CBS network affiliates during World War II. The show was never transcribed, and all that remains are the fascinating scripts.

Generic Radio Workshop archivist and Old Time Radio enthusiast Larry Groebe brushes back the soap suds of time to reveal these 23 contiguous scripts that reveal the characters, cliffhangers, and co-sponsors. Groebe also discloses a never-before-seen perspective on how the storylines were actually written and rewritten, with changes and deletions fully revealing how the director and cast refined the scripts with edits and cuts during their rehearsals.

Lady of the Press follows newspaper reporter Sandra Martin, a modern woman trying to balance her personal life with work. When police accuse her of involvement in a grisly murder, she embarks on a suspense-filled journey to uncover corruption on the home front while she is also embroiled with romantic entanglements in the office.

Sandra Martin is played by Janet Waldo, who went on to fame as the voices of Corliss Archer, Judy Jetson, Penelope Pitstop, and many other characters in a long and illustrative career.

These episode scripts are reproduced along with a seven-page Introduction that gives the history of the show, the cast, and the crew. Illustrated with five pages of photos, including portraits of the cast members, a reproduction of an actual script, and the sponsor’s products.

About the author and editor: Larry Groebe is co-founder, librarian, and chief archivist of the Generic Radio Workshop, a loose-knit group of radio artists, who have been performing vintage radio shows in the North Texas area for just about longer than the Golden Age of Radio existed in the first place. The Workshop holds the original and largest library of Old Time Radio. Larry also does voice work and online marketing. Visit www.genericradio.com for more information.
