SmartQuit now available for Windows Phone 8.1, iPhone and Android

KIRKLAND, Wash. - May 28, 2015 - PRLog -- 2Morrow, Inc. the makers of SmartQuit® announced today that they have released a Windows Phone version of the app-based SmartQuit smoking cessation program. Millions of Windows Phone 8.1 users can now access the evidence-based SmartQuit program that was created at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center to help smokers quit smoking. The program is already available for iPhone and Android users.

2Morrow’s CEO Brandon Masterson said that this tweet last year from @MFaroTusino, “@2morrowinc Do you want WP users to die from smoking? Make a compatible app!” reminded them that Windows Phone smokers need help too. In addition, some of 2Morrow’s clients (employers, wellness companies, states, and health plans) also expressed interest in seeing a Windows Phone version.

Smokers in Washington State can currently get the SmartQuit program (including the new Windows version) free of charge from the WA Department of Health. 2Morrow reports that they are also working with other states and employers to offer SmartQuit as part of their smoking cessation or benefits programs.

SmartQuit uses a unique Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) based program to help smokers learn a new way of dealing with their urges. SmartQuit is the first app-based smoking cessation program that has been tested in a randomized controlled trial and shown to be effective. The first study was done at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle by Dr. Jonathan Bricker. The full program is offered via employers, health plans and states as part of the benefits or smoking cessation program. Individuals can also get the program via in-app upgrade or from their sponsoring organization. A Washington State Life Sciences Discovery Fund (LSDF) grant helped get the program out of the lab and is funding a second study.
