CHELTENHAM, U.K. - May 26, 2015 - PRLog -- Lots included a mixture of porcelain, jade, ivory, pictures and works of art. Similarly to previous Mallams' auctions, Chinese porcelain proved to be very popular amongst bidders.

A spectacular Tibetan copper and turquoise inlaid Acharyas crown was the jewel of the event. This extremely rare crown, believed to be 18th Century, has three tiers decorated with a mix of lotus mandala and various symbolic emblems, including Trirtatna and Visvavajra. Achieving an estimate of £20,000 – £30,000, the crown sold for a comfortable £22,000 in the Cheltenham auction.

Other popular items included eight 19th Century Korean watercolour album paintings. Although the artist was unidentified, the final sale total was £9,500. It is thought that overseas bidders managed to succesfully identify the Korean artist, bidding up the originally low estimate.

Towards the end of the auction, a mixed lot was offered which included a pair of porcelain panels, one further panel and a Chinese pith study. After a significant amount of pre-sale interest, the lot made an astonishing £8,800. This was much greater than the £200-300 estimate. It is believed to be the single panel in this lot that caused noticeable interest amongst Chinese bidders.

The works of art items in the auction also sold well. These included a Sino Tibetan gilt bronze figure of Jambhala, believed to be dated 16th/17th Century which sold for £10,000, a Tang Dynasty Chinese gilt bronze scroll weight in the form of a mythical beast which sold for £7,500, and a large intricately carved Chinese cinnabar lacquer bowl which sold for £7,200.

Entries are invited for the next Asian, Oriental & Islamic auction which will take place in October. For more information, please contact Robin Fisher on 01242 235712 or visit the Mallams Auctioneers website: http://www.mallams.co.uk
