LONDON - May 22, 2015 - PRLog -- Following the success of the In Arrivo public transport planning and navigation app in Rome, the latest version has been updated to include similar travel tools for the British capital, London.

“Despite having an amazing public transport system, visitors to London still need all the help they can get,” said In Arrivo lead developer Fabrizio Bartolomucci, “In Arrivo helps find the location of bus stops and Underground stations, and most importantly, advises them of how long they need to wait for the next bus or train. They can even ask other nearby app users to give them a lift, or book a taxi if no drivers are available.”

As users approach a bus stop, In Arrivo pops up live timetable information for each route that passes through, helping them quickly and easily identify which is the ‘correct’ stop for their itinerary – particularly useful when there are many nearby stops on busy streets. Users can also tap on any stop shown on the map to access relevant timetable data and route information, helping with future travel plans. The app also allows users to select their nearest stops from a context-aware table, before giving turn by turn directions to the chosen stop.

And travellers who become lost can easily request a lift from other car-owning app users to their rescue with a single click on their iPad or iPhone, ensuring they reach their intended destination. This ride-sharing function allows In Arrivo users to make new friends and help spread travelling costs, whilst enjoying the sights and sounds of the city.

When a suitable ride share is unavailable, users can book a taxi and then track progress to see where the driver deviates from the fastest available route. In Arrivo offers its own social network, simplifying the task of agreeing a meeting place, arranging shared cars, calculating travel times, and tracking the progress of friends towards the rendezvous point.

“In Arrivo is the only comprehensive transit app for Rome, and we have long wanted to bring this same functionality to other European capitals,” continued Bartolomucci, “This latest update allows travellers in London to book taxis, catch a bus, plan an Underground trip, organise car sharing arrangements and even make new friends and split cab fares. And with support for seven languages, virtually anyone can now use it to get around London too.

In Arrivo offers a pair of powerful in-app upgrades – Time Machine and Teleport. Time Machine allows users to map journeys and plan itineraries in advance, creating routes and itineraries and ensuring not a moment is wasted during their stay. Teleport provides similar functionality in real time, extremely helpful for guiding other travellers to a specific destination, or providing directions to friends and family. All of the in-app upgrades allow users to save their routes for use at a later point in time.

“We continue to work hard at making In Arrivo quicker and easier to operate, so that travellers in Rome, and now London, have instant access to the information they need to navigate these amazing cities,” said Bartolomucci.

Version 8.1 contains a number of useful upgrades for existing app users too. A redesign of the Model View Controller system allows for better display of metro stops in Rome, along with estimated waiting times for trains on metro line C, or those departing from Jonio station are now included too. The new flexible app design means that other cities can, and will be added in future. There are also plans to add VoIP voice calling in the near future, connecting In Arrivo travellers, or to assist with the taxi booking process.

“Version 8.1 has been a labour of love between my team and our dedicated In Arrivo fans. With the assistance of Londoner Elias Hamaz we have redesigned the underlying app framework to build a system that helps visitors benefit from his local knowledge. We continue to collect user feedback to build a system that addresses the genuine needs of travellers and helps them better enjoy their stay in London and Rome.

In Arrivo 8.1 is compatible with all devices running iOS 6.1 and higher. The app is free to download and try, and users have the option to purchase a subscription for a further one or three years. An internet connection is required for accessing live timetable data and route mapping. Free WiFi access is available in many restaurants, hotels and shopping centers across London and Rome.
