Sterling Silver from Taxco Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary!

What motivated you to start a jewelry business?

I started this business by following a line of interesting challenges.  I loved the story of Taxco, and the vintage work of the original maestros, but it was the challenge of learning how to import, inventory and market the jewelry to warrant my first trip to Taxco.

Why do you shop exclusively in Taxco?

The city of Taxco is beautiful, and their jewelry is gorgeous, but I totally fell in love with the people I met!  I enjoy working with the women who run their little shops, and am amazed every time I stand by a worker’s bench and watch them make the jewelry you see on my website.  Americans live in a society that values machinery and production schedules, so seeing artists use handsaws and torches to create these beauties is truly refreshing.  I have been asked to carry other lines of jewelry, but my heart wouldn’t be in it.  I am passionate about the city, and the people, and the jewelry they produce.

What inspires you?

The people I work with are humble and genuine, and creative!   They invite me into their homes for simple, yet spectacular dinners. Their children wave at me in the streets!!  They work very hard to make a living in a country that has no regard for their needs and I am keenly aware that my business contributes to their quality of life.

What is a success? When a client returns to tell me how much they love their jewelry!

Where do you see the business going from here?  We are taking everything we have learned these first 10 Years and channeling the experience into our new website, www.sterlingsilverfromtaxco.com.  I want an online presence that dynamically tells the story of this beautiful city, while showing off the creativity and craftsmanship of its people.
