Local Independent photography studio finalist in national competition

May 21, 2015 - PRLog -- Firefly Photography, on Friargate in Derby city centre, is celebrating being a finalist for National Photographer of the Year.

Firefly Photography, owned by Belper man James Corbett, has been housed on Friargate since it’s opening, at 15 ½ Friargate back in October 2007. It began in family portraiture but has since moved onto newborn, makeover, modeling and Boudoir. It is now Derbyshire’s leading portrait photographic studio for gift experiences.

“It’s been a big decision to start entering competitions” explains James. “I’ve never been a fan of them as I’ve seen so many studios shooting for an award instead of for their client. However, times have changed and I’ve felt that it’s been a progression that’s had to happen for Firefly and for the other members in the team.”

Firefly Photography put together their first set of images for the Societies competition which is an international competition with the finals held in London. They were thrilled when one of their images received a merit from the Societies. Spurred on by this unexpected acknowledgement, James and his team then went on to enter the same image into the Click’s National Photographer of the Year. The studio are now setting their sights on more competitions for 2016 following the success they have had this year in the two competitions they chose to enter.

“As a first timer, it’s been a very good year and it’s felt even better knowing that this was an image created for the client and that the photographic industry have valued it as much as the family and their dog.”
