Hollywood Fringe Festival's Might As Well Live Adds Single South Bay Performance

Might as Well Live transforms the stories of renowned writer and poet Dorothy Parker to life in an one night only performance on June 14, 2015 at 3:00 PM in Hawthorne, California.

HAWTHORNE, Calif. - May 18, 2015 - PRLog -- Producer Jason Gromski and Writer/Director Adam Scott Weissman announce the up-and-coming play Might as Well Live is adding a onetime only performance in California’s South Bay, in addition to its run at the Hollywood Fringe Festival.  Based on four hilarious and heartbreaking stories by famed author Dorothy Parker, the show will have a single performance on Sunday, June 14th at 3:00 PM at Gallery H at Phantom Galleries LA, 12619 Hawthorne Blvd., Hawthorne, CA 90250.  A minimum donation of $5 is recommended for entry.

“Dorothy Parker once said the first thing she did in the morning was brush her teeth and sharpen her tongue.  You can say the same about her unforgettable characters,” said Weissman. “With Might As Well Live we wanted to take those characters and give them a modern twist.  We’re very proud to be showcasing this iconic author’s work.”

Gromski, Hawthorne Economic Development Council, Chair, noted “The Hawthorne Economic Development Council is excited to bring this production of Dorothy Parker’s work to Gallery H in the City of Hawthorne. The arts are beginning to flourish in the City of Hawthorne with multiple art openings per month. This show will expand the growth of performance arts, and will to continue to energize the artistic spirit of the Hawthorne community.”

Starring Bailey Wilson, Paul Stanko, Aly Fainbarg, Bret VandenBos, Gabrielle Giraud, Clinton Childress, Kaylon Hunt, and Paget Kagy, Might as Well Live features four short stories written by Dorothy Parker.

“The Lovely Leave” finds Mimi Parker and Steve Parker, husband and wife together for the first time in months — and only for his very brief leave from the Army. But will expectations and anticipation ruin what should be a perfectly lovely leave?

“You Were Perfectly Fine” recreates a situation most of us have been in, but wouldn’t like to admit it: waking up in someone else’s apartment the morning after a wild night and wondering what you did the night before.

“New York to Detroit” showcases the devastating breakdown of communication in a long-distance relationship.

“The Game” drops the audience in the middle of an engagement party, where a charades-like party game leads to devastating and life-changing revelations.

“Parker’s characters are flawed, vulnerable, wickedly intelligent, and unsettling familiar,” said Co-Producer Bailey Wilson.  “You’ll laugh because you know someone like that, because you’ve been there, and because sometimes there’s nothing else to do in the face of life’s indignities and defeats,” Producer Jason Gromski explained.

The producers wish to thank the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) for authorizing this use of Dorothy Parker's Works.
