MARIETTA, Ga. - May 15, 2015 - PRLog -- Marietta, GA – May 12, 2015 – Zion Baptist Church of Marietta will celebrate its 149th anniversary and 150th Kickoff campaign Sunday, May 17, 2015. This milestone anniversary themed “149 Years of Perseverance, Prayer and Praise,” will take place during the 10:30 am worship celebratory service in their main sanctuary located at 165 Lemon Street near Marietta Square. Reverend Leon Grant will deliver the sermon.

Zion Baptist Church, led by the Reverend Dr. Harris T. Travis since 1992, has a rich heritage in serving as the oldest African American Baptist church in historic Marietta, GA. The church was founded by former slaves and traces its history back to Dicey, a young slave girl who, while attending Marietta First Baptist Church, was allowed limited membership status and in 1836, became the first African American to join.

Zion invites the community and other surrounding churches throughout metro Atlanta to be a part of the celebration. This event is the kickoff of a series of yearlong ministry events scheduled through 2016. See calendar for event lineup and visit online at www.zbcmarietta.org/zion150 for ongoing anniversary news and information. We are Zion 150!
