Wiles Magazine Hosts Inaugural Poetry Contest

LOS ANGELES - May 12, 2015 - PRLog -- In celebration of the spring season, Wiles Magazine is hosting its first-ever poetry contest for Millennial writers and readers of the publication. The theme of the contest is “Change and Tradition” - which reflects the transitional nature of spring and mirrors the changes that young people face as they move into adulthood. As the contest’s founder and coordinator Ericka Fischer stated: “Encouraging young people to write poetry is important. A lot of young people think of poetry as an outdated form of writing, but it can actually be something really beautiful and meaningful without having to be too literal.”

“I was fortunate to be inspired to read and write at a very early age, so the prospect of promoting a new generation of writers is very exciting,” Editor-in-Chief and Publisher Teryl Warren added.  “Each July, we devote our entire issue to indie bands and musicians, and I’m happy we’re adding a celebration of poets to our annual support of emerging artists.”

While the contest is designed to encourage young poets, there is no age requirement to enter. The winner of the Wiles Poetry Contest will be featured in the June issue of Wiles Magazine and the Second-place finisher will be featured on Miss Wiles - a page devoted to multicultural readers aged 18-25. Submissions may be emailed to publicity@wilesmag.com.  Deadline for submission is May 20, 2015.
