Improve Education? Internationally Recognized Pioneer of Outcomes-Based Education DR. WILLIAM SPADY
Author of Bringing Heart and Soul to Education, Bill Spady is interviewed by Debbi Dachinger on Dare to Dream Radio.
"What I want to do is to challenge people, and invite people to think beyond the courses they're teaching now, simply the programs they have now. How could those be expanded, enriched, or developed in some way that allows for more authentic student learning or demonstration?"
Dr. Spady has published and lectured across the world on organizational leadership, systemic change, transformational learning systems, instructional management, Outcome-Based Education, school restructuring, strategic planning, curriculum design, and paradigm change. As detailed in his 2013 book Opening to Greater Realities, Dr. William Spady’s ‘amazing journey of spiritual awakening’ began in 1975. Over the next decade he benefitted enormously from a series of advanced workshops and in 1987, his work with a psychic named Barbara Binkley gave him a whole new perspective on the nature of his soul and its past incarnations.
After a decade of incredible career ups and downs, Bill experienced a series of life-changing events in 2001, including:
Discovering the presence within him of an extremely evolved ‘partner’ soul of the Hathor lineage who had been in the lives of many eminent historical and spiritual figures.
Meeting and eventually collaborating with Neale Donald Walsch on an international initiative called HeartLight Education where he developed an educational model that embodied the cosmology found in Walsch’s many books. Eventually directing the HeartLight Education initiative, forging its grounding philosophical principles and operating elements into a compelling ‘vision’ framework, and carrying its message to South Africa, Australia, and the U.S.
Bill’s collaboration with Walsch further bolstered his strong interest in inner exploration and spiritual growth, which spawned a host of papers, models, and frameworks related to the continuous evolution and limitless expansion of human consciousness. Carrying and advocating the HeartLight banner exposed Bill to a host of other eminent spiritual writers and healers, including the Utah shamans Jay and Rose with whom he began to work late in 2003.
Earlier that year Dr. Spady had developed the basic framework underlying The Fifth Paradigm, which his remarkable body of deep inner work described in Opening to Greater Realities expanded, enriched, and brought to life. His Fifth Paradigm work dramatically transcends conventional views of human nature, potential, learning, and self-actualization. Bill is an internationally recognized authority on paradigm-shifting and personally empowering approaches to Outcome-Based Education, organizational change, transformational leadership development, strategic organizational design, and models of learning and living. For over forty years he has spearheaded major initiatives on expanding the vision, deepening the philosophical grounding, and improving the performance of education systems throughout North America, South Africa and Australia. Today, in collaboration with distinguished colleagues throughout the world, he is bringing to the world the elevated and inspiring vision of human learning and education called Voices of Vision Network.
In 1979, Dr. Spady joined the staff of the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) as the Director of its National Center for the Improvement of Learning. While in that role, he co-founded the Network for Outcome-Based Schools, served as its Executive Director for five years, and founded and edited its quarterly publication Outcomes for six years. Between 1983 and 1986 he served as Director of the Far West Laboratory for Educational Research and Development in San Francisco. In 1986 Bill formed the High Success Network, a cutting-edge consulting group that fostered future-focused Outcome-Based restructuring, curriculum design, and school change in over forty U.S. States and Canadian Provinces for nearly a decade.
Known as a dynamic and compelling presenter, Bill has been a featured speaker on the national programs of most major educational organizations in the U.S. and was honored as “Distinguished Lecturer” at AASA’s national convention six times. Between 1997 and 2007 he consulted and lectured widely both in Australia and in South Africa, where, in 2003, he was named a Senior Fellow of the Novalis Institute in Cape Town, and Chief Consultant to the Matthew Goniwe Institute of Leadership and Governance in Johannesburg. He also founded the HeartLight Education Trust in Port Elizabeth, South Africa and served as a Senior Fellow of the Beautiful School International initiative, operating widely in Russia, Georgia, and South Africa.
Dr. Spady feels particularly honored to have his life and work be the subject of John Hader’s 2011 doctoral dissertation at Loyola University in Chicago, and the 2013 doctoral dissertation of Yasmina Thomas at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island.
As his many friends know, Bill is a former symphony trumpeter and loves classical music, attending symphony concerts and operas whenever he can. Since moving to Dillon, Colorado in 1991 he became an expert skier and qualified for the NASTAR National Ski Championships in the elite Platinum Medal Division three years in a row. He usually rides at least a thousand miles on his bicycle each summer, and loves scuba diving, walking in nature, ocean beaches, listening to his incredible sound system, and reading anything that expands his awareness and deepens his spirituality.
