Follow on Google News | ASD-DR Launches College Search Database; Are There Colleges That Support Autistic Students? This website includes information on over three hundred 2 and 4 year colleges from across the United States that provide support services for autistic college students.
By: ASD-DR There are over 5000 accredited post-secondary schools in the United States to choose from. Many families are overwhelmed with options, but none of the most popular college search pages provide any information specific to support services for special needs students. ASD-DR has created this online searchable database to help parents and students make informed decisions about the best school for their situation. "My daughter is getting good grades in high school, but she is still going to need some help in college. When we tried to find out what colleges would be able to provide that support there just weren't any good resources where all of the information was together in one spot. It was really frustrating." The schools on the website are divided into 3 categories; Those who run their own autistic specific programs, those who use a 3rd party vendor to provide autistic specific services and those who have support programs for special needs students that are not specific to autism. These are designated as 'friendly' to autistic students because they have consistently shown a willingness to work with students to ensure they receive the accommodations and services they need. The search page also displays information on housing, type of school setting, majors available, net cost and other information commonly used in choosing possible colleges. The site is designed to help students and families that are just beginning their search to quickly narrow the choices so that they can make an informed decision. www.ASD-DR.com started as a website to help parents of autistic children find the services and supports they need though a database of autism support providers. In 2015 the company has refocused efforts on providing information for autistic teens and young adults. The college database is the first step in that direction. End
