Announcing the Launch of AfroCritic.com

KAMPALA, Uganda - May 8, 2015 - PRLog -- Namige Kayondo with Cyberspot Innovations announce the launch of AfroCritic.com, a website dedicated to engaging the educated class in Africa and Africans in the Diaspora on the governance and development issues of the day.

“We created this website out of the need to find answers to the challenges facing the African peoples, through self-examination and self-criticism and through examining the African mindset because we find that 100 years of education hasn’t seemed to produce the responsible leadership African countries badly need. I have personally found it very disturbing that honest criticism of the economic and social mess we find ourselves in is sadly lacking in the press and online. Even the independent press has been gagged,” says Namige Kayondo, a Kampala-based free-lance writer. "With all of the recent upheavals, the Arab spring, and events in Burkina Faso and Burundi, the time to stand up and be counted is now.”

The website will cover a wide range of topics, including development issues, corruption in high places, book and movie reviews, humor, and reviews of the best African safari destinations.

One writer years ago, around the First World War wrote of Africans that as a rule, Africans “were not much interested in their surroundings. Although they had a name for all the shrubs and trees and birds, they walked about their country without appearing to possess it – or perhaps I mean, without leaving a mark.”

Judging from the endemic bad leadership and the mess it would seem that nothing much has changed since then. We think it is time to do something to change this state of affairs – through discussion, brain-storming, comparing notes, and genuine self-criticism. Solutions will not come from Europe or the USA – or from running away from the problems. Educated Africans especially cannot afford to sit on the fence amidst the rot and decay.
