SAN DIEGO - May 6, 2015 - PRLog -- Scooters for disabled people are used worldwide and have become a common sight on the roads and pavements. They liberate the disabled people who suffer disability due to deformations, injuries caused by accidents or disability due to old age. They provide a good sense of freedom in movement and boosts up their sense of independence. With increase of use, the risk factor and the user’s responsibility involved too increase. And thus, the need for insuring one’s scooter too is on a high.

Scooters and their insurance policy

The insurance of one’s disability aided scooters are not yet a necessary legal requirement policy in many a countries. So, legally there’s no need for insuring one’s mobile scooters. However, in practicality one should insure his or her scooter against third party liability. Other than third party liability insurance cover, the scooter user should also insure his health against any accidental injuries which can occur during scooter accidents. The insurance policies should also cover damages which may happen to one’s own vehicle during accidents or due to mechanical faults. The coverage should at least cover the expense of new mobile scooters if the need arises.

Insurance against third party liability

Insurance policies should cover expenses incurred by the owner of the vehicle against third party liability. This kind of damage can occur if the scooter driver causes any accidental damage or injuries to another person and his or her property. The amount to be paid varies from being a nominal amount to ranging up to substantial payment in major accidental cases where there can be serious damage to one’s life or property. The insurance policies should be structured in such a manner that the companies cover for most of the high expenses incurred by the scooter owner. It is important to check the credit limit of the insurance policies.

Insurance against theft

Majority of the mobility aided scooters are electric powered and are of high price range, hence, their chances of being stolen increases. The case of theft can be against the whole scooter or just the batteries. But a loss is a loss, and in this case it becomes bigger as the scooters and their parts are very expensive. The insurance policy done for the mobility aided scooter should cover one against cases of theft. They should give coverage for the value of the scooter as well as for its parts.

Insurance and trips

While buying an insurance policy for mobility scooters, one should check if the policy covers for any kind of accidents or damages caused due to it during a holiday or if a person is on a trip. Before buying the policy an individual should check for the holiday coverage and also check its terms and conditions to ensure if one is covered during his or her trip and in which parts of a country he or she is entitled for any kind of insurance claims.

It is important to check that the insurance companies from which a disabled person buys his or her policy is an authorised insurance companies for the disabled people.
