Follow on Google News | Puerto Rico’s Indoor Environmental Experts Identify Endocrine Disruptors in Homes and BuildingsZimmetry Environmental provides indoor air and environmental quality testing services to identify endocrine disruptors and other pollutants.
By: Zimmetry Environmental The endocrine system regulates all biological processes in the body from conception through adulthood and into old age. This includes the development of the brain and nervous system, the growth and function of the reproductive system, as well as metabolism and blood sugar levels. The female and male reproductive organs, pituitary, thyroid and adrenal glands are all major constituents of the endocrine system. The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences states, “Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that may interfere with the body’s endocrine system and produce adverse developmental, reproductive, neurological, and immune effects in both humans and wildlife.” Endocrine disruptors can be either naturally occurring or man-made. Known and suspected endocrine disruptors people may be exposed to in their daily lives include such substances as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), Bisphenol A (BPA), perchlorate, phthalates, dioxin and dioxin-like compounds, DDT, fire retardants, arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury. “Most people don’t realize many of these substances may be present in their home, work environment or places they visit on a regular basis,” said Harry Pena, President of Zimmetry Environmental. “Exposure to any of these substances can cause health concerns. At Zimmetry, our building science consultants are experts at identifying these types of environmental endocrine disruptors so that people are informed and can take measures to avoid exposure or remove materials that are the source of these endocrine disruptors. These and other indoor environmental services are available in Puerto Rico and across the Caribbean.” Zimmetry recently sponsored an educational video about endocrine disruptors and potential exposure concerns that can be seen at: http://youtu.be/ To learn more about Zimmetry Environmental and their indoor air quality, environmental and compliance consulting services, please visit www.zimmetry.com, call (787) 995.0005 or email info@zimmetry.com.
