Art Exhibit benefits the education programs of Sheldon Art Galleries

ST. LOUIS - May 4, 2015 - PRLog -- ​The Urban Arts Collective, sponsored by Urban Eats Café, at 3301 Meramec Street, St Louis Mo 63118, announces its second quarter exhibits and a new recipient of their GiveBack Program.   During the months of April May & June, a percentage of all Sunday Brunch food & beverage sales will be donated to the Sheldon Art Gallery Education  Programs for Children.

The second quarter exhibits feature the work of two very different groups.   This is a departure from the Urban Arts Collective’s standard format of featuring the work of 6-8 unrelated artists during a rotation, through a variety of media.

Art Bits, a group formed in 2007 as a forum for exploring the world of fiber and mixed media art, will be showing their group and individual work from April 1 through June 30. From tea bags to wool, to fabric and embellishments, the original pieces in this exhibit are as diverse as the artists who created them.  Color, landscapes, self-portraits, abstracts, and unexpected use of materials are what you will discover in this exhibit. Don't miss this feast of color and texture!

Jane Linders, local artist, and board member for the Faces Project, brings the “Faces Not Forgotten” exhibit which will be on display June 1-June 28^th with a closing reception that day.

“Faces Not Forgotten” is presented by the Faces Project, in collaboration with the Crime Victim Advocacy Center of St. Louis. With the family’s permission, through the Crime Victim Advocacy Center, numerous artists paint portraits of children age 20 and under who died as the result of gun violence. After touring, the finished portraits are then donated to the families of the victims. The Faces Project is the brainchild of artist Christine Ilewski to honor those children and raise the awareness of gun violence.

While the art is on display daily in the Arts Collective adjacent to Urban Eats Café,  Art events are held every Sunday during Brunch, accompanied by local, live music.

The Urban Arts Collective is an ongoing partnership with local artists who display their work in the Urban Arts Collective space, adjacent to Urban Eats Café. The goal is to create awareness for both the artists and the historic Dutchtown South city neighborhood. Artists rotate on a 90 day basis, while the work rotates monthly.

“The GiveBack Program is our unique way of benefiting organizations that we support, to get the word out about our Café’s social mission of neighborhood revitalization, benefiting both parties,” said Caya Aufiero, co-owner of Urban Eats Café and the Urban Arts Collective.
