Dr. Marc Whitsett to Join The Ridge as Medical Director

Seasoned addictionologist helps patients manage drug and alcohol addiction

CINCINNATI - May 4, 2015 - PRLog -- Cincinnati, Ohio – April 30th , 2015 – The Ridge, a premium care residential treatment center located in Cincinnati, is pleased to announce Dr. Marc Whitsett, a noted Board-Certified Addictionologist, as the new Medical Director of The Ridge.  He most recently served as the Medical Director (Opioid Treatment Program) at Clermont Recovery Center where the program almost doubled in size.  Dr. Whitsett has practiced addiction medicine for over 20 years with prior experience in emergency medicine.

“Dr. Whitsett continues the legacy started by Dr. Jeffrey Stuckert of successfully treating the diseases of alcohol and opiate addiction at The Ridge and will add a valuable skillset to The Ridge’s high quality services,” said John McKay, co-owner of The Ridge.  “His experience in emergency and occupational medicine as well as addiction has given him a strong foundation in comprehensive diagnostics and holistic treatment.  He is experienced in detox, in and out patient addiction treatments and was a Clinical Investigator for Phase II FDA trials in getting naltrexone (ReVia) approved for use in alcohol dependence,” McKay adds.

Board certified by the American Boards of Internal and Addiction Medicine, Dr. Whitsett earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati. He served as the Medical Director of Detoxification and Addiction Services at Deaconess Recovery Center where he provided all services including inpatient detoxification for alcohol/drugs, inpatient, residential and outpatient treatment for alcohol and drug addiction.

In addition to Dr. Whitsett’s extensive medical experience he has been lecturing for over 13 years on topics including Alcohol and Drug Testing Issues, Drugs and Alcohol in the Workplace, Drug Testing and Drug Intoxication and Withdrawal at the Cincinnati and Ohio State Bar Association, Drake Hospital Series and Cable TV.

As an advocate of the Medical Model of Addictive Illness, Dr. Whitsett would like to see the shame typically associated with this illness eliminated.  As a treatment provider he strongly believes in individualized treatment in finding the path to recovery even in the face of relapse.

Dr. Whitsett will also lead The Ridge’s sister community, Northland, to focus on outpatient services.  Northland has been helping patients fight drug and alcohol addiction for over 30 years.  Northland’s physician designed program includes detox, intensive outpatient counseling and aftercare.
