By: Live Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation, Inc. Today, in an effort to encourage family health and fitness, Live Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation announced the 5th Annual Unite for Healthy Kids 5K Walk & Run at Georgia Perimeter College in Decatur on Saturday, May 16. The 5K event will begin at 9 a.m. in parking lot 3 of Georgia Perimeter College’s Decatur campus and end at approximately 11:30 a.m. Participant registration is a tax deductible fee of $30 and includes a souvenir T-shirt, gift bag and complimentary snacks and beverages. Participants are encouraged to register on-line at: http://2015uniteforhealthykidswalkrun.eventbrite.com Live Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation encourages parents to lead by example where fitness is concerned so that children will be more inspired to have an active lifestyle rather than sitting at home taking part in sedentary activities that contribute to various illnesses. Participants of the 5K are encouraged to track their miles using a mobile app called fitRaise which accepts pledges for every mile of physical activity performed. LHTYF and fitRaise have launched a new partnership in hopes of providing participants with incentive to raise funds as well as track their fitness regimen. As further incentive for participants running in the 5K, local running store Phidippides will provide gift cards to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place runners. Local fitness experts from Body House Fitness and HardKhandy will lead participants in warm-up and cool-down exercises. The Atlanta Braves have partnered with Live Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation for the 5th year in a row to offer free home game tickets compliments of the “Reach Out Be Our Guest” program for the participants who raise the most money in donations for the Unite for Healthy Kids 5K Walk & Run. “We are so appreciative of all of the participants in this 5K because their support allows us to provide $1,000 book scholarships to deserving kids to help with college expenses” said Lori A. Manns, president of Live Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation, Inc. The theme for the 5K event is: “Family Fitness Matters: Don’t Sit, Get Fit” which is being promoted on social media to encourage the local community to attend the event.
