MADISON, Wis. - May 1, 2015 - PRLog -- Art... cut from a 55 gallon oil drum
Most island nations import every drop of oil. Haitians are the only ones to recycle containers so beautifully.

Cut both ends of the drum off -- reserve for 23" sculptures.

Next, stuff the drum with banana leaves to burn off residue, paint.

When cool, slice it down the middle & stretch / pound it flat to reveal a 3' x 6' metal canvas (kind of like rolling out gingerbread.. except with steel).

Draw the design onto the metal with chalk.

Pound, snip, chisel, stipple -- cut, shape, contour (this part is deafening).

We're Singing Rooster, a champion of Haitian producers :  coffee, art, cocoa, and growing.

We feature Haitian art online & return all proceeds from art sales to support our work in Haiti: we pay artists more than what they'd earn normally, we seek long-term relationships, and we bring proceeds back to help create a better life (this is small, but big: the recycled oil drum artists spend hours pounding and hammering metal. It's LOUD. The Rooster provided earplugs -- a big hit).

We hand select Haitian paintings, Haitian metal work, and other pieces. Join the hundreds of others who've bought Haitian art online from Singing Rooster.

Buy our Haitian art garden stakes for mother's day - the perfect gift.

Singing Rooster is a registered 501 (c)3 nonprofit and established social enterprise. We provide on-the ground assistance and direct market access to coffee farming communities in Haiti for the sake of self-sustainability, dignity & economic autonomy. We meet then EXCEED principles of fair trade. (http://www.singingrooster.org/transparency.html)

We partner with small scale, farmer-owned cooperatives to help cultivate and process high quality, gourmet Haitian coffee. Then we buy / export crops at premium prices and create new markets for it: roasted coffee, green coffee beans for home or commercial roasters, fundraising with coffee, and wholesale coffee to commercial roasters, cafes, and stores.

By helping farmers to improve crops, paying premium prices for those crops and then transforming and marketing those crops on behalf of farmers, we've created a direct farmer-to-table model for rural communities. We return 100% of proceeds of coffee sales back to farmers and their communities for continued economic development (http://www.singingrooster.org/projects.html).
