“Each year the need becomes greater and so does our resolve. It is with great excitement that we are able to help 11 food cupboards in our field of membership this year,” says Michael Sturdee, Director of Marketing at Bangor Federal. He adds, “Every year we exceed our goals from the previous year with the help of our staff, Board of Directors, and credit union members. Our greatest goal is always before us, to end hunger in Maine. We hope to see the day that it is reached.” Collectively, Maine Credit Unions raised $552,257.43 in 2014—a record breaking number since the campaign began in 1990. Bangor Federal placed 4th for total funds raised by the Maine Credit Union League (MCUL). The addition of a $1,425 award from the MCUL brought the total to be distributed to $23,213.24. Bangor Federal has participated in the Campaign for Ending Hunger every year, and comes up with very creative ways to raise money, including their two biggest avenues; the annual Bangor Federal Golf Tournament and their Maine Family Favorites Cookbook, which Bangor Federal won a national award for this past year.
