Stand Down for Safety Held May 4-15

April 29, 2015 - PRLog -- The second-annual Stand Down for Fall Protection Safety in the Construction Industry is being held from May 4-15, 2015. The first event held last year was widely successful, promoted by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Center for Construction Research and Training (CPWR).

Stand down asks workers and employers to dedicate time to fall prevention, which is the leading cause of death in construction, fatally injuring 3500 construction workers in the last ten years. This accounts for one-third of all construction fatalities. Lack of fall protection is OSHA’s most frequently cited violation.

Last year’s inaugural event was the largest work safety event ever held in the U.S. with more than one million workers participating. Interest continues to build for the event this year, not only across the U.S. but around the world. OSHA hopes to reach more than three million workers in 2015; not quite half of the construction industry.
