Relay For Life of Charlotte, to host a Father's Day Weekend 5K in Uptown Charlotte!!

Charlotte, NC  April 29, 2015 - the Kappa Foundation of Charlotte will host its Annual Healthy Achievement 5K Run | Walk on June 20^th at 8:00 AM.  An enthusiastic crowd of runners, walkers, and organizers will participate in support of healthy achievement initiatives and youth mentoring programs in the Charlotte community, while also celebrating Father's Day weekend in beautiful Uptown Charlotte.

Exciting and new for this year, the HA5K is partnering with the American Cancer Society and its Relay For Life of Charlotte, to be held on June 6^th in Romare Bearden Park.  In its 30^th year, Relay For Life of Charlotte is the American Cancer Society’s largest grassroots fundraiser.  To launch this year’s partnership, the HA5K is offering a “combo” deal for race registrants, enter code “RELAY” at www.healthyachievement5k.org and get registered for the HA5K and give a $25 contribution to Relay For Life of Charlotte.

The 5K serves as the signature fundraising event for the Kappa Foundation of Charlotte, featuring the American Heart Association and American Cancer Society as Cause Partners to bring awareness and action to health and wellness issues.  Race participants, Health Fair Exhibitors and Corporate Sponsors of the event, including our primary Sponsor, Carolinas HealthCare System, all ultimately support the Foundation's vision and successful mentoring programs as well as bring exposure to the importance of maintaining good health while achieving personal, scholastic, and professional goals.

The Kappa Foundation of Charlotte focuses its programs and initiatives around:
- Structured mentoring, leadership development, social awareness, networking and cultural enrichment
- College preparation, selection guidance, and academic advancement programs
- Academic scholarships
- Health awareness and healthy choices on the road to greater achievement

The Foundation strives to foster exceptional achievement amongst young men in the Charlotte / Mecklenburg County community through diligent role modeling, mentoring, structured involvement and open access to economic scholarship and resources.  To this end, the Foundation hosts two primary programs - Kappa League and the Beautillion Militaire (our 39^th year running, focused college preparatory and life skills program).

Kappa League is rooted in the spirit of assisting young men who are in need of counsel, advice and positive role models to aid in the navigation of their journey from childhood to manhood, particularly from a personal and scholastic development perspective.  Just over the last four years, more than 125 young men from 8^th – 11^th grade have participated in the Kappa League Program.

Beautillion Militaire focuses on advanced mentoring and facilitates scholarships for high school seniors pursuing further degrees at four-year collegiate institutions. The Beautillion Militaire has raised greater than $220,000 in merit and community based scholarship funds for greater than 100 young men.
