A motivational conversation does not require that manufacturing executives be motivational speakers nor display the hyper energy of a 'go-getter'. The motivational conversation is meant to help the plant floor workers. The motivational conversation is a calm, caring, and focused approach that can be used to counsel, coach, support, and / or empower others. In a recent survey most manufacturing leaders acknowledge they lack the ability to have a motivational conversation with an employee facing a personal or professional challenge; overwhelmingly they acknowledge it would give them an added dimension worker effectiveness and leadership abilities. It will help the workforce feel supported without feeling intruded upon. It is an interpersonal skill that will never become redundant.
