April 24, 2015 - PRLog -- This year marked the 54th annual Geomatics Engineering Conference (GME), at CSU Fresno. The GME conference is a student-run event that is highly supported and widely attended by the leading private firms, public agencies, and equipment manufacturers of the Land Surveying profession in California. Featured as one of the speakers was leading civil engineering firm Jensen Design & Survey’s (JDS) Senior Licensed Surveyor, Bill Hurdle.

The title of Hurdle’s one hour presentation was called Boundary Uses for Star*Net, merging coordinate geometry with least-squares. The discussion centered on the advanced technical aspects of using a rigorous Least-Squares approach to boundary calculations and solutions. This method can produce much closer results – compared to some of the traditional solutions.

“One example of a topic we discussed were details of techniques and method to permit the Star*Net software to calculate the ‘Best-Fit’ of a record data centerline, containing two tangents with included curve, to the found survey monumentation – using both ‘fixed’ radius and ‘float’ radius,” explains Hurdle. “The audience seemed very engaged during the discussion.”

Hurdle has over 30 years of experience in the profession and is a Licensed Land Surveyor in two states which include California and Colorado. He has extensive background with management at many surveying firms, and has proven his skills in implementing procedures resulting in increased product quality and efficient resource usage. Hurdle is able to run any size projects and multiple field crews.

The conference is a major funding source for the well-respected Geomatics Engineering degree program at CSU Fresno. It also consists of exhibitors, raffles, auctions, a scholarship banquet and networking opportunities.

“CSU Fresno University is highly-touted as the best school for Professional Land Surveyors in California, so I really hope everyone learned a lot from my presentation. I was honored to be speaking this year,” Hurdle said.

For the past 25 years, JDS has played an integral role in projects in and around Ventura County including Ventura County Medical Center, Seabridge Master Planned Community, Olivas Park Golf Course, The Thacher School, Sterling Hills, Six Flags Magic Mountain and Ventura Auto Center/Crown Dodge.
